Scilla

22/365
It has been the longest winter, and it seems like spring is really struggling to emerge. Soon, these tiny purple flowers will blanket the lawn. They have been pushing their buds up through the soil this week, and today I saw the first open blossom.

Snack

21/365
"Yogurt"-covered pretzels. I find these guys hard to resist. I have to be careful, though...in college, I had a bad habit with the "yogurt"-covered raisins.

Up a Tree

20/365
This is a girl in her natural habitat. Yes, those are cowboy boots. And blue is her favorite color, thankyouverymuch. For her dismount, she kicked off and swung from the branch several times before sticking it. (No pun intended.)

Kumquats, part 2

19/365
This is the last of them, before they got packed into lunchboxes this morning. Apparently, they really liven up a dull lunch table in the school cafeteria.

Kumquats

Dad brought kumquats back from Cali last week. Have you ever tried one? They start out sour, but finish sweet. Keep chewing!

Can you see where there used to be a branch floating in the water...? I tried a new trick with Picasa today.

St. Patrick's Day

11/365
It's confusing, I know... Those are marshmallows, glued to green index cards. They are part of a sculpture, still in progress. Until recently, this piece was being housed at the bottom of a little girl's closet, along with an open bag of marshmallows and an open bottle of Elmer's. I think it looks tremendous out-of-doors, don't you? Its rhythm is echoed in the picket fence and the whole thing practically glows in the sunshine.

Week 2

8/365
Today cones were $1 at our favorite ice cream joint. She asked if we could go...would you say no to this? I didn't think so.

Daffs from Trader Joe's are holding up nicely after a week...

...and I would just like to note that I've managed to complete a week (and two days) of my little project. There's still a long way to go, but it has been very interesting so far...I am starting to see things differently, to notice more details, as I anticipate the next shot. I'd like to conquer my fear of flash...I am trying to remember to bring my camera with me everywhere, but I'm a bit shy about pulling it out in random, public places. I purchased a new UV filter, and learned that we have another, larger zoom lens around here. Somewhere. Onward and upward!

Project 365

1/365
2/365

What a difference a day makes.
I have set out on a new mission: to take one photograph each day for a year. It should be an interesting way to chronicle the next 365 days. In addition, I hope my camera skills will improve -- it stands to reason that if you do something everyday, you'll get better at it, right? Plus, I need more structure in my life.
So I embark, camera in hand, into the blogosphere. I am apprehensive about the blogging... I am not here for self-promotion; I'm just trying to keep myself honest. Knowing that I have announced my intentions "publicly" should help me stay on task. No doubt, much of what I capture will be pretty mundane, but maybe I'll get better at celebrating ordinary events and recognizing everyday triumphs.
